Converse Implements Space Hippie Engineering Into The Chuck Taylor All Star Crater_Sole Says It All

While cemented within the sneaker pantheon, Converse has taken the last few years to demonstrate that it’s not content with resting on its laurels. From new silhouettes by Tyler, the Creator to an overdue foray back into performance basketball, the Massachusetts-institution has been hard at work. Yet, 2020 has arguably been the most notable year on this aforementioned front as it’s marked the introduction of Converse CX, the G4, and soon, the rethought Chuck Taylor All Star Crater.

Converse’s latest model, which launches on July 23rd, is equal-parts classic and future-forward. Rooted in NIKE, Inc.’s sustainability journey, the Chuck Taylor All Star Crater utilizes at least 40% recycled content by weight, which includes the Crater Foam sole units that recently debuted on the Nike Space Hippie line. But this eco-friendly take on The One Star Brand’s icon presented a dilemma to the more than 100 people involved in its creation: preserving the sneaker’s DNA while simultaneously propelling it into the next century.

For the former, Converse kept the shoe’s non-negotiable design cues: toe cap, medial branded patch, foxing tape, and pinstripe. These details are unequivocally Chuck Taylor All Star, despite being clad in brand new palettes. The Morphlon blends – mixes of recycled polyester and post-industrial textile waste scraps – that make up the forthcoming model’s upper help move the Chuck Taylor All Star into its next 112 years. A new lacing-system and chambray-reminiscent foam bottoms further inject newness into the familiar silhouette.

The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Crater arrives to Nike SNKRS on July 23rd. In the meantime, enjoy a first look at the model’s three launch colorways here below.
